Step 1. Bake the cake
You can use any cake you like. And just a quick tip, you probably won’t use the whole cake for making cake pops right away. So what I like to do is, cut the cake in half and freeze it. You can use that frozen cake later to make more cake pops.
Step 2. Let the it cool
If you just baked the cake, you have to let it cool to room temperature or cooler. The same goes for if you are using frozen cake. Just take it out of the freezer and allow it to thaw to room temperature.
Step 3. Crumble the Cake
Once the cake is at room temperature, use a mixing bowl to add the cake. Crumble the cake up using your hands. But do not crumble too fine. You will need some large chunks in there.
Step 4. Add frosting
Add frosting to the a crumbled cake. If you’re using a container of frosting, you will need to start out with around half the container or about 1 1/4 C. Use a spoon to mix the in the frosting and then eventually you will need to use your hands to mix it. It does get thick and that’s about the consistency you want it to be. It makes it easier to round the cake ball.
Step 5. Make the cake pop balls
Now that cake is mixed well with the frosting. Measure out between 1 to 3 tablespoons of cake. Now you can use a ball tool or you can use your hands. Place the measured out cake into the palm of your hand and roll it until the cake is a smooth ball.
Step 6. Place the ball
Using a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Place the rolled cake pop ball onto the sheet pan. Place the balls about an inch apart.
Step 7. Allow cake ball to chill
Take the cake pops and put them into the refrigerator or freezer. Allow them enough time to cool down. Around 2-3 hours may be needed, but leaving them overnight is OK too.
Step 8. Make the pop
Now that the cake balls have chilled and are hard. Insert the lollipop stick into the center. You can pre made the hole where the stick will go and then heat up Caramel. Dip the tip of the stick into the warm caramel and now place it into the pre made hole. This allows for a better grip for the stick and cake pop.
Allow some time for the stick caramel to cool. You will need to do this before step 9.
Step 9. Dip into warm chocolate
You can use milk chocolate, dark or white. Melting chocolate is difficult and if not done right it can quickly be ruined. For step 9. how to make cake pops will use the microwave way to melt chocolate. Please watch the video first.
Melting chocolate in the microwave is the quickest and cleanest way there is. Here’s how to microwave chocolate with a simple guide.
Now that the chocolate is melted. Dip the cake pops into the warm chocolate, decorate with sprinkles or what ever you like right now before the chocolate gets hard.
Once you have decorated the cake pop you will now use the Styrofoam block to put the lollipop stick end into the block to hold the cake pop into place. This allows for it to cool so that the chocolate gets hard without ruining the shape or decorations.
Repeat until all cake pops are done. You may need to work fast so that the chocolate doesn’t get hard.
